CCR Energy was invited by the British Embassy Warsaw, Poland, to participate in a workshop around the coal transition in the region of Silesia.
CCR Energy attended with the purpose of bringing to light the opportunities and potential for Silesia based on the successes of South Wales, Cardiff Capital Region and the Aberthaw site. Encouraging Polish industry to be an active part of the decommissioning of coal and take advantage of the new emerging green industries to revitalise their economy and raise the standard of living of its workforce.
The seminar in Silesia offered a unique opportunity for the UK coal transition industries to share their experiences and best practices with Polish partners, presenting transition pathways in the UK and Silesia, facts about the Polish coal sector, and the UK coal transition. The seminar celebrated the region’s coal transition successes, showcasing flagship projects which are reshaping the region, discussed future challenges for the region and presented several UK proven solutions to tackle them, strengthening cooperation between the UK and Poland.
Business Governance Lead, Jack Harrison represented CCR Energy and showcased the Aberthaw project, highlighting the current work happening, including the exploration of different sustainable and clean energy projects, potential opportunities around innovation, as well as future opportunities for the site.

The presentations highlighted the challenges and opportunities that face Silesia and Poland, demonstrating similarities faced by the UK. The level of engagement and interest shown by all attendees illustrated that both Poland and the UK have the passion and commitment to invest in energy security in the post coal era.”
