National Tree Week
Councillor John C. Morgan of Blaenau Gwent Council, visited the Hospice of the Valleys in Ebbw Vale, in celebration of National Tree Week, which is an annual celebration throughout November. CCR Energy donated three trees for the Hospice to use in their day centre, as well as their outdoor garden. We were deeply grateful that we were able to collaborate with such a valuable part of the community, through a project and narrative that is at the heart of our mission.
Hospice of the Valleys provides specialist palliative care to people across Blaenau Gwent, helping patients and their families with physical, emotional, social, and financial problems which they may struggle to control. Their efforts expand further, offering and providing support for families to plan towards the end-of-life stages, and throughout bereavement. Their contributions to the communities and families in Blaenau Gwent have proven to be immensely valuable, positively impacting thousands of people across the region.
When commenting on the visit and donation, Alison Stellard-Jones, Head of Income Generation for the Hospice of the Valleys, said “We are delighted that CCR Energy has chosen to support Hospice of the Valleys with some indoor plants. It’s a very kind gesture and they look great in terms of adding some colour to our day centre that our patients and their loved ones visit. We are hopeful that this is the start of a longer-term partnership between the Hospice and CCR Energy and would like to thank them for their generous and thoughtful donation.”
Cllr John Morgan, Cabinet Member – Place & Regeneration and Economic Development, Blaenau Gwent Council, described the visit as “deeply heartwarming”, adding that “Even though it is a small gesture, it is a gesture that we hope will mark the beginning of CCR Energy’s wider commitment to the region. Trees are long lasting, and we believe that this small donation will symbolise a long-lasting relationship between CCR Energy and our communities.”
Nicola Somerville, Head of Operations at CCR Energy, echoed Cllr Morgan’s words, explaining “We deeply recognise the amazing work that the Hospice of the Valleys does for the communities across Blaenau Gwent, and National Tree Week presented an opportunity for CCR Energy to show appreciation for their work. We look forward to continuing collaborations with the Hospice of the Valleys, and institutions alike across the Southeast Wales region.”
We too are hopeful that this small, but meaningful, donation will be the beginning of a long-lasting relationship/partnership between the hospice and CCR Energy. Despite the donation being in celebration of National Tree Week, it is still important to emphasise that donating, planting, and conserving our trees can be done all year round.
