SGM Waste Management

As part of CCR Energy’s new Supply Chain Spotlight series, we are proud to introduce SGM Waste Management, a Marshfield-based company in Cardiff providing comprehensive waste management solutions across South Wales. SGM Waste Management delivers a full range of services, from simple black bag collections and wheelie bins to large-scale commercial and demolition waste services. Since joining the Aberthaw Project in March 2025, SGM has been working closely with Erith, our demolition contractors, to deliver exceptional environmental performance on site.

A key achievement of this partnership has been SGM’s commitment to, and delivery of, 100% recycling of waste, with zero waste sent to landfill. This is not only an ambition for the Aberthaw Project, but a core value embedded across SGM’s wider operations. Their zero-to-landfill pledge reflects a company-wide dedication to sustainability and responsible waste management.

Strengthening the local supply chain is a priority for the Aberthaw Project, helping to create jobs, opportunities, and long-term prosperity across Southeast Wales. The partnership with SGM demonstrates how engaging local, value-driven suppliers can deliver both environmental and economic benefits.

SGM Waste Management Statement

“SGM have always been keen to work and support Erith Contractors Ltd, as Erith Contractors are known for its strong sustainability ethos. At SGM we are extremely eco-conscious, with a zero-to-landfill pledge, therefore we knew we would be the perfect partnership to support their environmental goals on the Aberthaw project. We were honored to be given the opportunity to tender such a large-scale project – then to secure the contract was confirmation our hard work and dedication to the new era of waste management is paying off. Since working with Erith, SGM has increased in size by 2400%, expanding both its infrastructure and workforce. To meet growing demand, the company has invested significantly in new equipment, including additional lorries, RoRo units, and yard machinery. These investments ensure that SGM continues to deliver a high-quality, reliable service to Erith Contractors and its wider customer base.”

Joining the Aberthaw Project has also created an opportunity for SGM to expand its fleet and operational capacity, clearly demonstrating the positive impact of adopting a strong

local supply chain. Erith Contractors are proud that its appointment of SGM has contributed directly to the company’s growth and success.

Erith Contractors Ltd Perspective

Oliver Refson, ESG Manager at Erith Contractors Ltd, commented:

“Working with SGM on the Aberthaw project has been a brilliant experience. They have a strong sustainability ethos with a zero-to-landfill pledge, which helps us reach our targets and minimise our impact from waste generation. Like us, they are a family-run business with a strong charitable backbone. Their passion for supporting vulnerable communities is admirable, we have discussed at length how we can both work together to support those who need it most. It is very refreshing to work with suppliers who are so aligned on ESG.”
